Amazon Web Services (AWS) and healthcare technology company Bluesight have introduced a new AI-powered solution designed to help hospitals simplify one of the most time-consuming pharmacy compliance tasks in the United States.
The new platform, called Prism, uses artificial intelligence to connect pharmacy records, compliance data, and inventory information, helping hospital teams review drug purchases much faster while reducing manual paperwork.
The first AI assistant, Prism Assistant for ControlCheck, is already available and is being used across 20 healthcare systems, with additional AI-powered compliance tools expected later this year.
What Is the Prism AI Platform?
Prism is an AI layer developed by Bluesight using Amazon Bedrock and other AWS AI services.
Instead of searching through multiple reports manually, hospital staff can simply ask questions in natural language, and the AI assistant quickly gathers information, creates charts, and generates compliance reports.
The platform is designed to reduce repetitive administrative work so pharmacists and compliance teams can focus more on patient care.
Why 340B Compliance Is So Complex
The 340B Drug Pricing Program allows eligible hospitals to purchase medications at discounted prices.
However, strict regulations require hospitals to prove that certain drugs qualify under specific purchasing rules.
To stay compliant, pharmacy teams often need to review:
- Drug purchase records
- FDA drug shortage notices
- Inventory levels
- Supplier back-order reports
- Drug eligibility information
- Hospital purchasing history
For large healthcare organizations, this process can take thousands of staff hours every year.
AI Reduces Manual Work
According to AWS, Prism significantly speeds up compliance investigations.
The AI assistant can:
- Search pharmacy records instantly
- Analyze controlled-substance transactions
- Generate compliance reports
- Create visual charts
- Answer questions through a conversational interface
Instead of manually reviewing multiple systems, users receive organized results within seconds.
AWS says some report generation tasks that previously required hours can now be completed in minutes.
Human Oversight Still Remains Essential
Although Prism automates data collection and report creation, the final compliance decision is not made by AI alone.
Bluesight designed the platform so that compliance scoring follows predefined rules instead of relying entirely on large language models.
This allows hospitals to:
- Review every data source
- Verify AI-generated evidence
- Apply their own compliance policies
- Maintain full audit records
Healthcare professionals remain responsible for making the final regulatory decisions.
Strong Security for Healthcare Data
Because hospital information is highly sensitive, the platform includes multiple security protections.
According to AWS, the system offers:
- HIPAA-eligible infrastructure
- End-to-end data encryption
- Secure authentication
- Private cloud deployment
- Detailed audit logs
- Session isolation for each hospital
AWS also states that customer healthcare data processed through Amazon Bedrock is not used to train foundation AI models.
Future AI Features Are Coming
Later in 2026, Bluesight plans to release a new multi-agent AI system focused specifically on 340B Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) compliance.
The new assistant will combine information from several Bluesight products to automatically collect purchase records, verify eligibility, check supply shortages, and prepare compliance documentation for auditors.
The goal is to make complex pharmacy compliance faster while keeping human experts in control of final decisions.
Hospitals face increasing administrative workloads while also dealing with staff shortages and strict regulatory requirements.
AI tools like Prism demonstrate how artificial intelligence can reduce repetitive compliance work without replacing healthcare professionals.
As more healthcare organizations adopt secure AI platforms, technologies like this could improve operational efficiency, reduce reporting time, and allow pharmacy teams to spend more time supporting patient care.
