Meta on Tuesday has officially launched Muse Image, its latest AI-powered image generator designed to create and edit images using simple text prompts.
The tool is now available for free through the Meta AI app, Instagram Stories, and WhatsApp. It also includes built-in AI editing features and creative presets to help users generate images more quickly.
Privacy Feature Sparks Debate
The biggest controversy surrounding Muse Image is its ability to generate AI images using photos from public Instagram accounts.
Users can tag a public Instagram profile, allowing the AI to create new images based on that person’s photos. While Meta says users can disable this feature through privacy settings, critics argue the opt-out approach raises important privacy concerns.
Many users on social media have questioned whether public photos should be used by AI without explicit permission.
More Than an Image Generator
Besides image creation, Muse Image also supports:
- AI-powered photo editing
- Removing unwanted objects from images
- Creating custom QR codes
- Interior design previews
- AI effects for Instagram Stories
- Advertising and marketing visuals
Meta also confirmed that Muse Video, an AI video generation tool, is currently under development.
