Spotify is expanding its artificial intelligence features with a brand-new AI music assistant that lets Premium users interact with the app through natural conversations.
Instead of typing keywords or browsing playlists, users can now simply ask Spotify what they want to hear. The assistant understands follow-up questions, recommends music based on listening habits, and even helps users explore podcasts and audiobooks.
The feature is currently available as a beta for eligible Premium users in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden on both Android and iOS devices.
How the New AI Assistant Works
The new assistant works much like a conversational AI chatbot.
Users can either type or speak their requests, and Spotify responds with personalized recommendations based on listening history, preferences, and ongoing conversations.
For example, you can ask:
- Play artists I’ve never listened to.
- Recommend relaxing music for studying.
- Show me upbeat songs released this year.
- Find podcasts about artificial intelligence.
- Suggest audiobooks similar to my favorites.
Unlike traditional search, the assistant understands follow-up questions, making music discovery feel much more natural.
More Than Just Music Recommendations
Spotify says the assistant isn’t limited to playing songs.
Users can also ask questions about:
- Album release dates
- Artist backgrounds
- Song inspirations
- Listening history
- Favorite genres
- Podcasts
- Audiobooks
The AI can even tell users when they first listened to a particular song or suggest similar artists based on personal listening habits.
Perform Actions Without Leaving the Conversation
The AI assistant also performs several tasks directly from the chat.
Users can:
- Add songs to the queue
- Save tracks to their library
- Follow artists
- Build playlists
- Discover new music
- Continue refining recommendations with follow-up prompts
This makes finding content much faster than manually navigating through menus.
Powered by Multiple AI Models
Spotify confirmed that the assistant uses a combination of its own AI technology along with models from multiple AI providers.
The company says it selects whichever model performs best for each specific task, helping improve recommendation quality and conversational accuracy.
However, Spotify hasn’t disclosed which third-party AI models are being used.
Spotify’s Growing AI Strategy
The new assistant builds on several AI-powered features Spotify has introduced over the past few years, including:
- AI DJ
- AI Playlist Generator
- Personalized recommendations
- Integration with AI tools like ChatGPT
By adding conversational AI across the app, Spotify is making it easier for users to discover content without relying on traditional search methods.

The AI music assistant is currently rolling out in beta to:
