Spotify has announced that its Managed Accounts feature is now available to users on the free version of the platform in selected countries.

The feature, first introduced in 2024 for Premium Family subscribers, allows parents to create dedicated accounts for children and control the type of music and content they can access.

With this update, Spotify aims to provide more families with tools to create a safer and more personalized music experience for younger listeners.

What Are Spotify Managed Accounts?

Managed Accounts are child-specific Spotify profiles that remain under a parent’s supervision.

Unlike sharing a single account, children receive their own personalized listening experience while parents maintain control over content settings.

Kids can:

  • Save favorite songs
  • Create personal playlists
  • Receive music recommendations based on their interests
  • Enjoy a separate listening history

Because the accounts are independent, children’s activity won’t affect a parent’s music recommendations or annual Spotify Wrapped results.

New Safety Controls for Parents

Spotify includes several built-in parental controls to help create a safer experience.

Parents can:

  • Block specific songs
  • Restrict certain artists
  • Disable explicit music
  • Turn off video playback by default
  • Prevent access to age-restricted features like Messages
  • Update content settings anytime

These controls give parents greater flexibility without requiring children to switch to the separate Spotify Kids app.

How to Set Up a Managed Account

Parents with eligible Family accounts can create a Managed Account by:

  1. Opening the Spotify app.
  2. Going to the Account page.
  3. Selecting Add a Member.
  4. Choosing Add a listener under 13 (or the local age requirement).
  5. Creating a display name and selecting content preferences.

Parents can return to these settings whenever they want to adjust restrictions.
