YouTube is rolling out several new updates to Shorts, introducing faster playback controls and a cleaner viewing experience for users.
One of the biggest additions is a new 2x playback speed option, allowing viewers to watch Shorts at double speed. According to YouTube, the feature is designed to help users consume information faster and quickly reach specific moments in videos.
The platform is also simplifying user interactions by replacing the traditional like button with a heart reaction. At the same time, YouTube is removing the public dislike button from Shorts. Users who want to avoid similar content can instead use options such as “Not Interested” or “Don’t Recommend This Channel.”
Another notable addition is Clear Screen Mode, which temporarily removes icons, buttons, and text overlays from the screen. This creates a distraction-free viewing experience and allows users to focus entirely on the content.
The update reflects YouTube’s continued investment in short-form video as competition remains strong from platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels. Despite entering the market later than its competitors, YouTube Shorts has grown rapidly and continues to attract billions of daily views worldwide.
The new features are expected to roll out gradually to users over the coming weeks.
