Figma has announced a major platform update that brings code layers, animation support, and advanced AI-powered features directly into its collaborative design environment.
The update aims to strengthen collaboration between designers, developers, and product teams by allowing code and design workflows to exist within the same workspace. One of the biggest additions is Code Layers, a feature that lets teams connect code repositories, extract user flows, and test ideas without leaving Figma.

Figma is also introducing built-in support for animations, transitions, and 3D transformations, reducing the need for external animation tools. Designers can now create richer interactive experiences directly within the platform.
Artificial intelligence plays a major role in the update. Users can generate visual assets, shader effects, and design elements using AI prompts. Figma is also expanding its AI assistant with customizable skills that can automate repetitive tasks and improve productivity.
Additionally, users can connect external tools such as GitHub, Notion, Excel, and other productivity platforms to provide context for AI-powered workflows. The company is also developing AI-powered plug-in creation, allowing users to build custom tools through simple text prompts.
The latest release highlights Figma’s growing focus on combining design, development, and AI into a single collaborative ecosystem.
