OpenAI has officially expanded ChatGPT Health to all eligible users in the United States, making its AI-powered health assistant available across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans.

The update allows adults aged 18 and older to ask health-related questions directly through ChatGPT while optionally connecting personal health information from supported services. The rollout reflects OpenAI’s growing focus on AI-powered healthcare while continuing to remind users that ChatGPT should not replace professional medical advice.

What Is ChatGPT Health?

ChatGPT Health is a feature designed to help users better understand health-related topics using artificial intelligence.

Instead of searching multiple websites, users can ask ChatGPT questions about symptoms, nutrition, fitness, medications, allergies, and general wellness in natural language.

During testing, OpenAI discovered that most users were already asking health questions through regular ChatGPT conversations instead of using the dedicated Health section. Because of this, health features are now available throughout the ChatGPT experience.

Users Can Connect Health Apps and Medical Records

One of the biggest upgrades is the ability to connect health data from supported platforms.

Users can link information from services such as:

  • Apple Health
  • MyFitnessPal
  • Function Health
  • One Medical
  • Epic health systems
  • Oracle Health

With permission, ChatGPT can use this information to provide more personalized responses. For example, it can consider allergies, nutrition goals, or activity data when answering health-related questions.

OpenAI says users remain in control of what information is shared and that personal health data is not used to train its AI models.

Health Questions Continue to Grow

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT is now handling around 300 million health-related questions every week, up from approximately 230 million during the initial testing phase.

The company believes this growing demand shows that more people are using AI to better understand medical information, healthy lifestyles, and wellness topics.

Improved AI Performance for Health Queries

OpenAI says its newest AI models perform better when answering health-related questions.

The company evaluated its models using HealthBench, an open-source benchmark designed to measure AI performance in healthcare scenarios.

According to OpenAI, its latest model shows better accuracy than previous versions while working alongside physicians to improve the quality of responses.

AI Is Still Not a Replacement for Doctors

Although ChatGPT Health has improved significantly, OpenAI continues to emphasize that its AI is not intended to diagnose diseases or provide medical treatment.

The company encourages users to verify important medical information with qualified healthcare professionals before making any health decisions.

This reminder comes shortly after legal attention surrounding AI-generated medical advice highlighted the importance of responsible AI use in healthcare.

AI in Healthcare Is Expanding

OpenAI is one of several technology companies investing heavily in AI-powered healthcare tools.

Other major AI companies are also introducing health-focused assistants that aim to help users understand medical information more quickly and improve access to educational resources.

Experts believe AI can become a valuable support tool for patients and healthcare professionals when combined with proper medical supervision.
